From March 7 to 11, 2016, four experienced staff members at Japanese NGOs in international development came together in Washington, D.C. for a week-long exchange program in Washington, D.C. with a focus on Southeast Asia and women’s issues in the region.
The program included public lectures, a case studies workshop, meetings with U.S. policymakers, think tank experts, and NGO leaders as well as independent activities, all designed to strengthen ties between the U.S. policymaking community and Japanese NGOs as well as trigger further discussion on possible areas for U.S.-Japan cooperation on international development issues. Participants exchanged views on their approaches to and challenges in addressing shared objectives, including effective ways in which NGOs can operate with their government and other players.
